Cancer therapy requires high reliability and precision in treatment equipment.

In cancer treatment, malignant tumors are exposed to shaped beams of ionizing radiation. This radiation is produced in a linear accelerator structure wherein electrons accelerated to high energy strike a target which then generates the  X-ray treatment beam.  The accelerating energy is supplied by pulsed microwave power, typically from a klystron or a magnetron and fed to the accelerator cavities.  High power microwave generators are very sensitive to reverse power reflections from linac cavities and it is essential that they be protected from this unwanted power.

The AFT solution:  Circulators, isolators, absorbers, fast ferrite tuners and AFC control devices for use in microwave networks and distribution systems.

Our products enable the efficient transfer of microwave power and protection of the RF generator, as well as maintaining precise tuning of the accelerator cavity.

Numerous other medical applications utilise our thin film technology in very small devices, such as catheter and endoscopic instruments.

NMRI equipment operates with very high and precise magnetic fields.  The very large AFT ferrite circulators operate at similar high magnetic fields and this magnetic technology is applicable in NMRI machines.  The AFT magnetic capability enables the assembly of NMRI magnet structures and then to magnetize the complete assembly to the required magnetic field.
