The main challenge in drying processes, heat aging, chemical reactions and food preparation is to apply uniform heating and to minimise the heating process time.

Conventional heating procedures, such as infrared radiation or hot gases or liquids apply heat only to the exterior of the product.  Waiting for heat conduction to the product interior adds significantly to the processing time, and is mostly accompanied by high power consumption.

Microwave heating is a more-efficient method that provides heat throughout the product volume as the microwave penetrates through the entire product, where it is absorbed.  More-uniform heating is obtained and the process time greatly reduced.  Microwave heating is uniquely applicable to conveyor belt and automated oven methods in industrial/commercial applications.
